Terry style in his photography has several
repeating themes in all of his work, what he decides to do is put high profile
celebrities in mundane situations and starts photographing them using
traditionally pedestrian methods, such as the use of an instant camera, in
almost all of his work had explores ideas of sexuality but he also is known of
taking photographs of his nonsexual portraits of celebrities such as Miley Cyrus,
Sharon Stone, Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan, Kat Dennings, Kate Moss, Katy Perry,
Liza Minnelli, Miranda Kerr, Kim Kardashian, Samuel L. Jackson, Tracy Morgan, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, Daft
Punk, Jon Bon Amy Winehouse, Jadred Leto, LeBron James and the president of the
united states of America Barack Obama, but the ideas of sexuality he has many
of the pieces featured in his books “Kibosh” and “TerryWorld” in his book it
has depicting full-frontal nudity and both simulated and actual sexual acts.
Many of Terry Richardson’s subjects would be shot
before a white background with the celeb/ subject his taking photos of in the
middle of the background put up but eventually he expanded to other backdrops,
he is also known for him and his subjects posing together in photos but often
he would give them his trademark glasses so they would look like him, Terry
Richardson counts on Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, Robert Frank and Diane Arbus as
his early influences on his artistic style for his photography, His work has
officially been praised by Helmut Newton

This is one of Terry Richardson’s photos of
the rapper Tyler The Creator from the group Odd Future, This photo really
catches my eye, reasons why is that how Terry has a white background but and
the corners of the background starts to
get darker looks grey but that is because of the Beauty Dish he is using to get
so much detail in the photographs his taking, like the details that on the face
of Tyler you can see near enough every detail in his face and his clothing,
What I think that would also catch the viewers eye is the way posed also the
refection of the light in his eyes it gives Tyler a serious look in his eyes.
I like how
you can see the refection of his shadow in the white background, how it caught
my eye is the lighting of the background as the camera and lighting is focused
on his face the bottom are of his clothes get darker and so does the background
itself, its great how he used Butterfly lighting even though the viewer can’t
really see the shadow underneath the subjects nose, in my case the shadow is
really thin because it really depends on the subjects size and look of the nose
so if their nose is longer and pointed you will get more of a shadow under the
nose but if the subjects nose is small and flat more than a point long nose the
shadow becomes more harder to spot in a photograph another thing is you can
spot a shadow under the chin of the subject and what gives it away is how
bright the photo is and you have a really detailed shadow in the background of
Tyler’s head.
What caught my in this photograph of the
photographer Terry Richardson is how detail the colour of the subject eyes are
and the background again become a dark grey at the corner of the photo also I
like how he decides to use a white background for mostly every photograph he
takes of a celebrate but what I also noticed and what also caught my eye is that
he used a bit of clam shell lighting in this photo, reasons why I said clam
shell lighting is because of the way the precision the model/ subjects face is
to the background as you can see on the model/ subjects face it gets darker
toward the right of her face then you can see the detailed shadow you get left
behind and that’s why I said Terry Has used clam shell lighting, what would
catch the viewers eye and what my opinion on this photo is detail on her eye
its bring out a really strong vibe and it gives of a really good impact to the
photograph, what makes this photo great is how the colour of her hair and
outfit is near enough same colour, what I like about it is because its
different, it gives off a reflection on the light and that is another thing that
give off a really good impact to the photo it really separates the model/
subject to the background, what would grab my attention is the detail of the
shadow you can almost see the little shadow underneath her nose and to the
right side of the nose, it almost looks as if Terry Richardson has used
butterfly lighting in his photo but what made me say he used clam shell
lighting is how the model/ subjects face and body is posed what I think Terry
has done for his set up is he more time got his subject to pose so her face is
more to the side of the background instead of her face being straight like
“Tyler The Creator” so he then can use two soft-boxes on both side of
the model/ subject at the same distance and the angle to get that shadowy look
at the right side of her face.
